Leonard Cohen

This is legendary stuff, one of the few writers to have success as a musician. His novels Beautiful Losers and The favorite Game have become cult classics.
His melancholic style is very influential.

He checks Belgian singer Jacques Brel as his greatest influence,
Songs worth listening:
-So long Marianne
-Famous blue raincoat
-Suzanne

And dont' forget his book of longing which includes drawings, prose, poems and some lyrics.

Al Pacino

here's a major cult, inspiration for hundred of actors of past and present, unfortunatley there is only one, but his work has led to much imitation and aspiration.

One of the coolest actors of the 70's, he is considered an style icon. Hollywood doesn't have this kind of cool actors now. His best performances include:
The Godfather
Serpico
Carlito's way
Scarface
Glengarry Glen Ross
Heat

Bill Haley and his Comets

The coolest thing about bill haley and his comets is how unfashionable they are. They seem completely forgotten and irrelevant, that's just the reason you need to like them more.
To my ears this is the most rocking music of the 50's. Danced at parties everywhere they are possibly the most influential band in rock n' roll ever. 50 years on and their music still sounds grand.
In case you ever have the need to appear retro cool in front of your friends, just put on their greatest hits. And if you ever see a band with a more striking look sporting matching jackets, a sax and a big upright bass like they did please let me know.
